In one line:Lumon8Bot reads publicly available pages on a dealership website at the dealership’s request, so their own staff can see how AI answer engines describe them. It is not an AI training crawler, and nothing it reads is used to train a model.

Who runs it

Lumon8 LLC. We are a Generative Engine Optimization platform for car dealerships. A dealership signs up, and we scan their public website so we can report how ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Grok, and Google AI answer questions about them.

We only crawl a site when its dealership has asked us to, or when someone runs a free audit on a site they operate. We do not crawl the open web.

What it requests

Public HTML pages — homepage, inventory listings, vehicle detail pages, hours and contact pages.
/robots.txt, and /llms.txt if present.
Nothing behind a login, a form, or a paywall. It does not submit forms, does not execute purchases, and does not attempt authentication.

What it does not collect

No personal data. No names, email addresses, phone numbers, form contents, or customer records. We read the same pages any visitor can load without signing in.

Crawl behaviour

Honours robots.txt, including a rule addressed specifically to Lumon8Bot.
Fetches a small number of pages per site — a scan is on the order of ten page requests, not thousands.
Sequential requests with a timeout; it is not a load generator.

How to allow it

If your dealership client signed up with us and their scans are failing, we are most likely being refused by a firewall or bot filter rather than by robots.txt. Allowing the user-agent string above is usually all that is needed.

Blocking us means the dealership loses their AI visibility reporting, so it is worth checking with them first — but the choice is yours and we will respect it either way.
